Kendrick Lamar has achieved a historic milestone by securing the record for the longest time a song has held the number one spot on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Chart. His collaboration with SZA, “Luther,” has remained at the top for 23 weeks, surpassing the previous record held by his own track “Not Like Us.”
Together with SZA, they now dominate the top three positions on the all-time list. SZA’s “Kill Bill” held the number one position for 21 weeks during 2022 and 2023.
Although “Luther” has already made history, projections suggest it may continue leading the chart in the coming weeks.
Last week marked the end of “Luther”’s 13-week reign at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
Over the past year, Lamar has consistently broken various records.
A joint performance by Kendrick and SZA in Seattle on their Grand National Tour earned $14.8 million, making Kendrick the first rapper to surpass the $14 million threshold with a single concert.
This event was the tour’s most attended show to date, attracting nearly 61,000 fans.
He broke his previous record set during a concert at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, which generated $11.822 million in one night.
That achievement made Lamar the highest-grossing Black man ever for a single live concert.
The prior record belonged to The Weeknd, whose 2022 performance at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles brought in $9.8 million.
On the tour’s opening night in Minneapolis, Lamar initially set the record for the highest-grossing rap concert in history.
Touring Data reported that the Minneapolis show brought in over $9.1 million from more than 47,000 attendees, with tickets averaging $192.70.
Lamar’s achievements extend beyond the stage, as he has also been breaking long-standing chart records.
“Not Like Us” recently became the first rap song ever to remain on the Billboard Hot 100 for an entire year.
This diss track stayed on the chart for 52 weeks before dropping off last month.
