Ne-Yo shared that he feels a sense of relief after accepting his “truth” when it comes to relationships.
Speaking on the Lemon Drop show, the R&B artist, who has been married before, confessed that monogamy isn’t something that suits him.
He explained, “I realized that I had not been living my truth for a very, very long time. I’m living it now, and you can tell: my skin is glowing. I’m in a great space — mentally, emotionally and everything else.”
He continued, “I realized that everything is not for everybody. It is some of the truest shit that anyone has ever said. Society tells you that you’re supposed to be with one person. You get married and y’all supposed to be together for ever.”
Ne-Yo made it clear he wasn’t criticizing marriage or those who manage to make it work. “Monogamy’s for you? It’s not for me. I know this now and it’s like a weight lifted off my shoulders.”
He also said, “I spent so much time lying and trying to be somebody that I wasn’t for the sake of somebody else. Complete and utter time wasted, when I could have just been exactly who I am, said exactly what I wanted and then waited for those people to gravitate towards me. Because that’s my reality now.”
Ne-Yo emphasized, “I don’t have to lie anymore and I’ll be damned if I ever go back to [being] that person that needed to lie for the appeasement of somebody else.”
Ne-Yo finalized his divorce from Crystal Renay in February 2023 after a highly publicized split, with the couple having three children together.
In her divorce petition, Renay accused the “So Sick” singer of fathering a child outside their marriage and of lying and cheating on her. She posted on social media, “8 years of unknowingly sharing my life and husband with numerous women who sell their bodies to him unprotected… every last one of them!”
She went on to say, “To say I’m heartbroken and disgusted is an understatement. To ask me to stay and accept it is absolutely insane. The mentality of a narcissist.”
Since then, Ne-Yo has fully embraced a bachelor lifestyle, being seen on dates and even vacations with several women at the same time.
During a TMZ interview this summer, the 45-year-old expressed his support for the legalization of polygamy and revealed that he doesn’t limit the number of girlfriends he has.
“[There’s] no specific cap. It just depends on who I vibe with and who vibes with me. As many as you can afford,” he said.
