NEW YORK, NY – By now, the entire Hip Hop community is acutely aware that Eminem and Machine Gun Kelly have been engaged in a war of words for the past three weeks. On Thursday morning (September 20), MGK sat down with The Breakfast Club and laid it all out on table.
The conversation begins with MGK calling Eminem a “recluse” and revealing he never got the chance to talk to Shady about the comment he directed toward Em’s daughter Hailie in 2012. In fact, he was asked to speak to Em’s longtime manager Paul Rosenberg instead.
“I didn’t know how old she was … I made a comment,” MGK says. “I didn’t feel like it was disrespectful. But I’m a father. I have a nine-year-old daughter. I get it, 100 percent. And man-to-man, I’ll tell you I apologize. Can I take the tweet down? Sure.’ But public apology? Come on, man.
“We’re talking about the same guy who shits on dead people … It was a silly comment to have started all of this. It’s something silly to trip on. I get it if it was like, you know, gruesome words were used or there were sexual implications in it.”
MGK then claims Em wasn’t truthful during his interview with Sway Calloway when he said he never called Diddy to have MGK’s project shelved.
“Jimmy Iovine and Puff conferenced called me at 9 in the morning with multiple other people,” he says. “Em lied.”
Charlamagne then addresses the various theories floating around that suggest the whole beef is something staged by Interscope Records to help MGK sell records.
“I wish,” he says with a laugh. “I went to equal playing grounds. You took two weeks, I took two days. You used a Ronny J track, I used a Ronny J track. You used a million dollar studio, I used a dressing room before sound check.”
Finally, MGK weighs in on Shady’s “Killshot” diss track.
“‘Killshot’ was a leg shot,” he says. “‘Rap Devil,’ we’re talking about facts. You want to talk about man buns? Answer the facts. You wanna talk about a hairstyle I wore for a movie? A blockbuster movie … I’m an actor homie. How disconnected are you? You called me a mumble rapper. Can we just pour some out for this old dumbass?”
Eminem isn’t the only rapper MGK has issues with these days. G-Eazy dropped his own MGK diss track earlier this month.
As soon as Charlamagne brings him up, MGK has no problem admitting he hooked up with the Bay Area-bred rap star’s longtime girlfriend Halsey.
“That’s when she and I were rockin,” he says. “That was, ironically, when I had my [man bun]. Of course I’m going to throw a punchline is because I know it hurts. This is Hip Hop.”
Elsewhere in the interview, MGK briefly talks about Mac Miller’s death but admits he hasn’t slowed down his use of drugs. He clearly has a tough time tackling the subject.
“I gotta tell my truth,” he says. “It’s … I don’t know. The reality of the situation is you can’t, as a world, expect to break people down constantly and not expect them to want some kind of escape. I don’t have mom I can call. I don’t have a a dad I can call.”
For now, MGK isn’t planning on responding to Em’s “Killshot.” He’s more focused on getting his upcoming Binge EP out.
Until that surfaces, watch the full interview up top.
