The U.K. has another star in the making with Headie One. Despite his previous run-ins with the law, Headie has changed his life for the better, and has netted superstar collabs with Drake and Future for his debut album Edna.

Released in October, Edna is dedicated to the rapper’s late mom and proves why he’s a promising MC on both U.K. and American soil. When he isn’t delivering reflective tales such as “Teach Me” and “Cold,” Headie is a smooth gentleman, as proven on “You” with Mahalia.

Get to know Headie One as he talks about his feature with Drake, learning how to freestyle in jail and more.

My managers and my A&R Rob.

For me, I just wanna see things I haven’t seen before. That’s always going to be the top of any list.

19. You began freestyling when you were in jail several years ago. What ways did that sharpen your skills as a lyricist ? Do you still freestyle today?

It helped me a lot in terms of my ability to write and think on the spot. My skills have always been very sharp though. Yeah [I still freestyle].
